Multimedia jacks
The jacks starting from the left are:
- mic (connect an external microphone, this disables the internal microphone)
- line in (connect an external audio source)
- headphones (connect headphones or external speakers, this disables the built-in speakers).
Infrared port
The IR port is disabled when the computer ships from Gateway
due to the installation procedure for Faxworks. The IRDA-1 IR,
infrared, port and optional module uses infrared technology to
send signals between the portable computer and a remote computer. It can
send signals, as well as receive them. A variety of desktop computers,
printers, and other peripherals are IR-compatible. Placing the
Gateway Solo 2100's IR port within three feet, one meter, of another
computer's IR port, along with transfer software, allows the Solo
2100 to send and receive information to and from that remote desktop
computer, printer, or other peripheral. The optional module, the
receiver/transmitter, must be placed no farther away than three
feet, one meter, with the module's IR port directly facing the
Gateway Solo 2100's IR port. The other end connects to the remote
computer's serial port.
PS/2 port
The PS/2 port supports hot plugging of
a keyboard and mouse. Click the port for pinout information.
Kensington lock
The little slot next to the PS/2 port is the Kensington lock.
This is a special cord that can plug into this port and to a
connector mounted on a desk, so the portable computer cannot be
stolen. The sound chip in the Solo 2100 is Sound Blaster Pro
compatible.
